flEXiff curatorial team would like to thank and congratulate all filmmakers,
producers and distributors that sent their work(s) to be included in this
year's event.  The festival is a screen culture strategy to familiarize and
develop audiences to appreciate the art of moving images in the Western
Sydney region and beyond.  We are proud to have selected the works below for
flEXiff 2006 that transcend universal messages through a universal language.

This year's selection is potent and diverse in its core (form) but its main
concern (content) is contemporary Life that entails environment, economics,
racism, sexuality, politics, oppression and finally constructive resistance.
These issues are addressed in many different ways from diverse regions of
the world and demand urgent evaluation and response by international
audiences to resolve the conflicts.

Thanks again for your contribution!

MAIN PROGRAM

flEXiff 2006 presents over 70 short and feature length animation, live
action, documentary and experimental works from four corners of the globe.

POLITICAL P.O.V

flEXiff is devoting this section to works that are specifically addressing
contemporary and/or historical political related issues.  Global political
oppression today is adamant to undermine the very essence of human
imagination and/or capacity to make important decisions.  All in the name of
Capitalism!  flEXiff 2005 curatorial collective winners 'Volatile Works'
from Canada will be presenting yet another provocative series of works that
are challenging in their visual forms but transparent in their messages.

ECHOES OF A POST-COLONIAL ERA

This section of flEXiff is dedicated to works that are hybrid in form and
content.  The works are deconstructing cinematic codes by utilizing Digital
medium to construct new and untold narratives.   In many works,
appropriation of already meaningful mages is juxtaposed with new meanings to
enhance the underlying agendas.  The works are contemplative and demands the
audience to participate in order to resolve the conflicts subjectively.

AN EPIC JOURNEY

flEXiff recognizes the difficulties filmmakers has to encounter to make work
independent from funding or narrative restrictions and criteria.  Therefore,
works presented in this section is homage to those creative directors and
independent producers who stood by their beliefs and ideals to tell their
stories in their own way!   Also, an appraisal for countries that are
emerging with new styles of story telling utilizing creative cinematic forms
such as; John Riley & John Ketchum's 'What Means Motley?, a dynamic feature
from Republic of Ireland.  flEXiff also presents Janghun 'Troy' Choi's
'Blind Love', a paced non verbal short feature from Canada as well as Javier
Martin Vazquez's confronting documentary about controversies surrounding the
Argentinean football guru Diego Maradona simply entitled 'Loving Maradona'.

PALESTINE ON PALESTINE

flEXiff 2006 presents a series of works about Palestine's present political,
economical, cultural and social situation and its impact on individuals and
communities.  This series is to familiarize audiences with cultural and
physical boundaries many Palestinians face today living on designated lands.

CURATORIAL AND EXCHANGE PROGRAM

More to be announced after August 10, 2006

SMOKESCREEN

MIDDLE EASTERN WOMEN AGAINST OPPRESSION!

This year, flEXiff is initiating a special curatorial program entitled
'Smokescreen' that consists of works by filmmakers depicting specific
political and/or cultural situations that are not readily perceived or
viewed by mainstream audiences.  The first presentation is a series of
feature documentaries by predominant Middle Eastern women filmmakers.

Article 61 by Mahvash Sheikholeslami 70' IRAN 2004

Article 61' is a constitutional clause in Iran defining 'Self Defense'
whilst a group of women are awaiting death penalty because they killed their
husbands in Self Defense.  The women tell their true and horrific
experiences in front of the cameras knowing this could be their last defense
for crimes they did not commit.

Women in Struggle by Buthina Canaan Khoury 75' PALESTINE 2004

'Women in Struggle' is an ongoing resolution to the political and cultural
conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.  The personal confrontations are
expressed by Palestinian women who were sentenced to death or long term jail
for their participations in terrorist activities over 30 years ago.

RICE AND PEAS

flEXiff is proud to present two significant documentaries about the
contemporary cultural and economical dilemmas in England and Cuba produced
by socially and politically committed UK based NGO 'Rice and Peas'.

Bang Bang! In Da Manor | Sean Mendez & Negar Esfandiary | Documentary | UK |
68' | 2002

Bang Bang! In Da Manor is an amazing insight of emerging youth gangster
culture in London through the eyes of its subject matters.  This work is an
evidence to realize the power of capitalism that transcend from being simply
a fashion victim to a gun shot victim.

Until Forever | Ismahil Blagrove Jr. | Documentary | UK - Cuba | 57' | 2004

Haste Simpre is a depiction of social, economical and political situation in
Cuba today.  This documentary realizes the inherent racism against the Black
Citizens that exist despite Cuba's socialistic manifesto.  This is rare
glimpse of this issue since most of the focus has been diverted to Cuba's
external politics!

Program and venue Schedules will be announced closer to the event.
